Charaka Samhita describes eleven types of head diseases. Shirahshula (headache) occurs due to aggravation of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or all three doshas. Treatment varies based on the predominant dosha.
For Pitta-type headache (burning, light sensitivity): cooling therapies, sandalwood paste, and ghee with bitter herbs. For Vata-type (throbbing, variable): warm oil massage, regularity. For Kapha-type (dull, heavy): dry massage, stimulating herbs.
